Premier Giuseppe Conte said
Tuesday he ws "pleased" that European Commission President
Jean-Claude Juncker had admitted "mistakes" in subjecting the EU
to "hasty" austerity.
"I don't change my mind according to the statements of
others," Conte said, stressing that "our budget was born because
we became immediately aware of the ineffectiveness of austerity
policies."
He said "persevering when there are adverse economic cycles
means completely compressing economic systems.
"Some mistakes were made, I'm pleased if they are admitted
but I don't want to go into the merits of Juncker's statements".
